ANterior Porcelain
This colleague came to me to enhance the esthetics of her smile. She was not happy with the esthetics of the composite restorations on her anterior teeth and she wanted a more durable and more esthetic solution. After the intake and treatment plan discussion we decided to make 10 porcelain veneers in the upper jaw.
Smile photo
This smile photo was taken during the intake and is an essential photo for our treatment plan.
Close-up photo
A close-up shot the teeth gives more detail about the shape of the teeth and the current composite restorations.
Wax-up
In most esthetic cases I work together with Oral Design Center Holland (ODCH) in Blaricum. Here they made a wax-up to create the new smile on a model of the teeth.
Mock-up
The new smile from the wax-up can be transferred into the mouth in order to test-drive the end result and see whether it meets our esthetic and functional expectations.
Close-up photo before preparation
We can see the composite on the central incisors and canines.
Final preparations
In most cases we only need a small reduction of the volume of the teeth in order to integrate the veneers. In this case only the composite was removed and all edges were rounded off.
Minimal preprations
In this case the thickness of the preparation (compared to the wax-up) ranged between 0.3 - 0.8mm.
Here you can see how the teeth are prepared for the veneers.
Temporary veneers
The temporary veneers are based on the wax-up and made from the same material as used during the mock-up phase.
Production of the veneers
After the preparation the dental technician will start to fabricate the final veneers.
In order to get the best possible result they want to see the patient once for shade taking and once just before delivery.
Fitting of the veneers at the technician
Just a few days before delivery the dental technician sees the patient to test fit the veneers and make changes in shape and color if needed. In this appointment the technician will finish the restorations together with the patient. This usually takes 3-4 hours.
Cementing the veneers
On the day of cementation all veneers will be double checked by me to check the order of cementation and to check the margins of the veneers.
Cementing the veneers
Once the veneers are double checked, a rubberdam is placed in order to get the best possible operatory field to cement te veneers. The veneers will be cemented one-by-one.
After cementation
Once all the veneers are cemented the rubberdam will be removed and all margins will be checked and post-op x-rays will be taken to double check everything.
Evaluation after two weeks
After two weeks a 20 minute evaluation appointment is scheduled. During this appointment the final result will be evaluated and we will take the same photographs as we did during the intake.
Result after 4 years
After 4 years it still looks like these veneers were placed yesterday. Porcelain has the highest esthetics and will remain to look good for a very long time.
Please note: the results of this treatment may vary from patient to patient. Your own treatment may differ from what’s prescribed here. During the intake we will discuss different treatment options and discuss what’s best for you and what you can expect.
Oral Design Center Holland
About Oral Design Center Holland
In most esthetic cases I work with the dental technicians from Oral Design Center Holland (ODCH) in Blaricum. They create the wax-up based on your preferences and oral situation.
Once I receive the wax-up, we will schedule a mock-up appointment. During this appointment, I will transfer your newly designed smile into your mouth to test the esthetic and functional design. We will take intra-oral and portrait pictures of the mock-up to ensure it meets your approval. In most cases, the mock-up is removed during the same appointment. However, in some cases, I may let you test the mock-up for an extended period of time (ranging from 2 to 4 weeks).
If we decide to proceed with the treatment plan, the dental technician will want to meet with you to review your wishes and measure the shade of your teeth (or the desired shade). Once we’ve prepared the teeth and made an impression and/or scan of the situation, the dental technician will need 2-3 weeks to fabricate the veneers. A few days before the cementation appointment, the technician will want to see you again to finalize the veneers. During this appointment, they will fit the veneers and make any small adjustments to the shape and color. Only once you approve the veneers will they be finished and sent to me for cementation. This appointment usually takes 3-4 hours. In this way, you’ll be part of the entire process and will see your veneers before they are bonded to your teeth.
