Home Whitening (Bleaching)
Home whitening (bleaching) is the preferred method when you would like to change the color of your teeth. Home whitening is the least invasive method, since the other option would be to cover the teeth with restoration to change the color (either composite or porcelain). It’s important that home whitening is always done before any restorative treatment, since restoration materials (composite and porcelain) won’t change in color when you bleach. After a desired result is achieved, the new restorations can be made in the same color as the bleached teeth.
Home whitening is always mentioned as an optional treatment, except in the case of yellow/brown spots and the infiltration treatment. In those cases it’s absolutely necessary to do home whitening in order to remove the yellow/brown spots prior to the infiltration.
Home whitening is done, as the name suggests, at home with custom whitening trays, which are made on an impression and/or scan of your teeth. In 7 - 21 days you can visibly change the color of your teeth by wearing the whitening trays for 2-4 hours each day/night.
